Hanka Kastelicová is the VP and Executive Producer of Documentaries for WBD/HBO Max in Europe. Based in the Prague office, she is responsible for the development and production of HBO’s documentary films and series in Europe. She commissions and co-produces documentary programming, focusing on feature length productions, and documentary series which should have a strong connection with the countries where HBO Max broadcasts in Europe. Hanka is passionate about nurturing European stories rooted in the rich local tradition of visual storytelling and resonating with global audiences. The documentaries she co-produces give strong insights into their subject, creating debates, showing a different perspective, and are daring, creative and innovative. HBO documentaries are mainly character driven stories with a strong narrative and high production values. That is why many of the films she co-produces are very successful worldwide and have won many awards at international festivals. Hanka will share her wide knowledge and experience, talking about challenges there are in making a documentary series, pitching to producers and TV commissioners, and distribution. She will examine some important questions, considering when to decide for a series, what is the right topic, what is the right number of episodes etc.
