Regional Competition
The Regional Competition brings together films from our wider neighbourhood and carries a special energy of recognition. Shared social contexts, historical experiences and cultural nuances meet very different authorial voices. These films often speak “from within”, without the need to explain themselves outwardly, making them direct, precise and emotionally powerful. The programme connects urban and rural stories, the private and the collective, the past and the present. The Regional Competition is both a mirror and a laboratory: it shows where we are and where documentary expression in the region is heading. People and their choices are at the forefront, along with the systems that shape, limit or provoke those choices. A specific sense of humour, self-irony and stubborn vitality often run through the films. These works open conversations about family, work, identity, belonging and (in)justice. This is not a “smaller” scene – it is a space where the most intimate themes become universal. Closeness is an advantage here: what is nearest to us often hurts the most – and means the most.
