Hostile focuses on the UK’s complicated relationship with its migrant communities. Told through the stories of four participants from Black and Asian backgrounds, the film focuses on the impact of the evolving “hostile environment” policies - a term used by the government in 2012 to describe the atmosphere the government wanted to create for migrants in the country with the intention of provoking them to voluntarily leave. The film explores how the lives of international students and “Highly-Skilled Migrants” have been affected and their personal stories are interspersed with views of activists, academics and politicians. What does it feel like to be told you don’t belong?
