Franco Maresco is an Italian director, screenwriter and editor born in 1958, in Palermo, Italy. He is known for his collaboration with Daniele Ciprì. The couple started collaborating in 1986, and they became popular with Cinico TV, series of 49 black-and-white shorts in which they depicted in a grotesque, comical and visionary style the ordinary life of Palermo suburbs. After making their feature film debut in 1995 with The Uncle from Brooklyn, in 1998 their provocative film Totò Who Lived Twice caused a stir, being temporarily banned by Italian censorship for blasphemy. Eventually, the couple split to pursue solo projects. Maresco continued working on documentaries, with Mafia Is Not What It Used to Be (2019) being his latest one.
