Several years ago, when they began making a film about arranged marriages and Nediljko Babić, a pleasant matchmaker from Imotski, producer Vanja Jambrović and director Nebojša Slijepčević packed their bags, bought the cheapest HD camera from their savings money, borrowed a microphone from Restart production and left Zagreb to explore the Dalmatian hinterland. Even though the project sparked quite an interest at various pitching forums right from the start, the financial turning point happened when the German ZDF broadcaster entered the scene and based on the rough cut bought the rights for broadcasting the film on ARTE channel.
The film was mostly made in guerrilla conditions, and the filming took so long that people of Imotski already thought that Vanja and Nebojša were weirdoes lying about their true intentions. After the premiere at the 9th ZagrebDox, the situation turned to their advantage and the documentary comedy that in the meantime saw its international premiere at the Canadian HotDocs and won three audience awards (ZagrebDox, DokuArt in Bjelovar, and Mediterranean Film Festival in Široki Brijeg) continues to win the hearts of people all over Croatia and the world. The last, perhaps the greatest of challenges the production had to face is the recent regular cinema distribution. Since early in February 2014 the film is on the listings of Croatia’s independent cinema network and one multiplex, which is the widest cinema distribution of a documentary film in Croatia of all times.
